Workout Week In Review (7/10/10)

This has been one of the most intense weeks of training that I have had in a while. Earlier this week I posted about Monday’s training session with Bob. Today I will fill ya in on the rest of my week.

Besides Monday, I trained Wednesday and Saturday. These workouts are so taxing to my system, that I don’t think I could train anymore then 3 days per week, other then throwing in some conditioning work. Definitely require a lot more recovery time.

Anyway, here is what I did in the workouts:

Wednesday:

Right in the middle of the day, super hot (only time I could train that day)

Front squat with axle – worked up to 225 for sets of 10. could of went a lot higher but right knee was bothering me

Keg carry, 60ft with 1 turn – 1 round with 80# keg, then 4 rounds with 160# keg

Straight leg deadlifts – used 80# keg 3×10

Saturday:

This was a spur of the moment thing, didn’t plan on lifting till later in the day. Think I rushed things and did not warm up and prepare as good as I should have. Felt fairly weak today.

Axle deadlift – worked up to 350, just did singles at that weight. felt super heavy.

Rack pulls with axle – worked up to 350# and did reps of 10

Chest supported row – worked up to around 200# low reps, then backed down in weight to hit some more reps

TRX rows – did 2 x 15 just to finish blasting my back

Overall:

Definitely need to work on my DL and pulling strength/technique. The keg carries Tuesday felt fairly easy, I was surprised by this. I just need to work on my foot speed. Tuesdays workout felt great overall, even afterward I felt really good. Today’s workout was rough, felt weak the whole time and I am a lot more wiped out now.

As for my current out look for the comp in September; I feel good about all the events, except maybe DL. I know this is my weak spot and will have to work hard to bring it up to where it needs to be. Going to talk with Bob and some pro powerlifters I know for tips on increasing my DL.

I have gained about 10 pounds since starting to train for strongman, that’s about a month or so. I am currently about 275# at 6′3″ Here is a quick progress pic I took after training today, Sorry it’s not very good quality!
